Today was the "Great American Meat-Out" in Lewistown, organized by M Yasoda and the Lewistown Vegetarian Society. Hemagaura and I went to represent Adopt a Cow for GN - While it was a nice experience, I was somewhat taken aback by some of the members stand. Most of the folks who organized the event are Vegans, which made it a bit hard to be the only one there w/burfi made from our cows milk.
There was lots of great vegan food and a plethora of information in becoming a vegetarian, how to cook like a vegetarian, etc etc.
I was actually offended at the speakers position that milk has no value in our diet. My motto is generally, live and let live, but that got my dander up just a little bit. Over my (long suffering) husband's objections I packed up and we left early. While I think it's great to have an event like this is feel it is somewhat disingenuous (sp?) to discount folks who don;t happen to be vegan :-( Hope they can find a way to be more inclusive next year because I can't imagine anything better than to have a program like this "Great American Meat-Out" to educate the public in general about the benefits of vegetarianism.
Also, at GN - the dhama is host to a number of devotees from NY this weekend. When Hemagaura and I arrived this morning everyone appeared to be in great spirits and looking forward to the bon-fire tonight - Hope they can come down again - and also tell their friends about GN and the wonderful time to be had there in Sri Sri Radha Damodara abode.
Of course, Bhumi, who was in the pasture, decided to slip under the wire and cruise around on the farm. We saw hime as we were leaving this afternoon and hurriedly looked for M Parijata so that she could corral him back into his spot. By the time we came back he was wandering around the Bramacari ashrama and apparently had found a bunch of burrs to settle in his coat.
As I mentioned before, you can always get a free meal - all it takes is a commitment of three hours work time :-)
